About Unichain
Uniswap’s Unichain is a newly introduced Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) network designed to address the speed and cost limitations of decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Ethereum blockchain. Built on the Optimism OP Stack, Unichain aims to provide faster transaction times (down to 250 milliseconds) and significantly lower fees—up to 95% cheaper compared to Ethereum. It supports cross-chain interoperability, making it easier to transfer assets across various blockchains, and features decentralized validation through UNI token staking. This L2 network is poised to enhance liquidity across chains and optimize user experience within DeFi, all while integrating with Optimism’s broader Superchain ecosystem. The Unichain testnet is live, and the mainnet launch is expected soon, adding competition to established L2 solutions like Arbitrum and Base.
