Virtual music experiences are becoming a staple for big bands and performers

Slipknot, one of the most popular metal bands in music history, has joined the web3 movement by teaming up with The Sandbox. The band has big plans for the Knotverse, a digital experience designed after the hugely successful international festival Knotfest.

Summary:

Slipknot to launch the Knotverse in The Sandbox

The Knotverse by Slipknot will be a 24/7 neverending virtual experience centered around anything and everything related to the band. Visitors can expect full-scale virtual musical experiences from concerts to meet-and-greets with the band.

The roadmap will see unique NFTs and generative collections, plus metaverse concerts, gaming, fan experiences, unique collaborations, wearables, and much more. All in a concerted effort to increase the presence of heavy metal culture in the metaverse. Additionally, the partnership will include a vital element of utility through access to new music, IRL events, festival experiences, merchandise, gear, masks, and more.

According to the official announcement, the Knotverse will be designed after Slipknot’s unmistakable style. More than 20 years of image and dark carnival elements will find a new home in the web3 space.

The official Knotfest wallet already holds nine plots in The Sandbox. The Knotverse will be located close to the Deadfellaz estate. The official roadmap also hints that the Slipknot web3 experience will introduce numerous exciting collaborations. However, details about these are not available yet. Slipknot members are also teasing individual NFT projects with rare collectibles bound to attract fans’ attention.

What is the metaverse, and why is it becoming so popular?

The metaverse is much more than blockchain or any other technology. It is a virtual universe in which everyone can interact with other people, while data and value can be shared permissionless. At the same time, it is important to understand that one virtual world can never be a metaverse, because we are talking about the interconnection of several worlds, if not all at once.

In this sense, the Knotverse is just one piece of the global metaverse experience. It is a virtual world connected to other virtual experiences in the metaverse. Platforms like The Sandbox, Decentraland, Cryptovoxels, and Somnium Space all offer people access to virtual worlds. The combination of these virtual worlds creates the metaverse.

Of course, the metaverse is a rather new concept, which will undergo hundreds and thousands of developments and iterations before it reaches the level of interconnectivity it ultimately needs. Still, the fact that big brands and names like Slipknot are making the jump into web3 and virtual experiences is a strong signal that the metaverse is here to stay.

And the Knotverse is not the only virtual experience out there. Check out these other musicians who’ve also found value in creating a web3 experience for their fans.

Slipknot joins Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton in the metaverse

Slipknot is far from the first big name in music to join the web3 movement. Arguably, Snoop Dogg is the star that has left the most significant mark in the metaverse. The rapper was among the first to establish his own virtual experience in the metaverse. His estate in The Sandbox, called Snoopverse, started welcoming fans in September last year

Since then Snoop Dogg has launched several NFT collections, including an avatar one and an exclusive NFT pass project, giving access to the Snoopverse. Additionally, the rapper teamed up with Gala Music to release his latest album B.O.D.R as an NFT

Other celebrities have also made the transition into digital and virtual experiences. Paris Hilton also launched her own virtual world experience. She teamed up with Roblox to create the Paris World late last year. Recently, the star also struck a deal with The Sandbox, in a much similar fashion to Snoop Dogg.

Interest in the metaverse is rapidly growing, however, the web3 space has much more to offer to musicians and their fans. Read on to find out what DJ RAC has to say about it. He recently launched his web3 project called racOS.

Web3 will revolutionize the music industry

The web3 space and the music industry have entered into an interesting dance of revolution. NFTs and the blockchain have the potential to solve important problems regarding revenue and fair pay in the music industry. The introduction of new streaming services brought a lot of benefits to music fans, but performers and creators have long disputed this as an inadequate revenue stream.

DJ RAC decided to fight against the dwindling profits from streaming platforms by transferring his art and music to the web3 space. RacOS was his first venture into web3. Recently, he launched a music NFT project in collaboration with sound.xyz, and the comparison in revenue is staggering. RAC posted this breakdown on Twitter earlier today.

While this is a single artist pointing out how web3 has benefited him, there is a more global trend to note. Web3 allows artists and musicians to put a price tag on their work, and most importantly benefit from secondary sales. The gains RAC outlines above come only from royalties from secondary sales of his music NFTs. As he said, 136 people generated more than 9.1 million people would have through streaming. The difference is huge.

In this sense, the web3 space and the metaverse have untapped potential to bring completely new revenue streams to artists. What’s more, fans and music lovers will be able to take part in a whole new type of music experience.

DappRadar will continue monitoring the metaverse as music flows through the web3 space and brings innovation to the whole industry. Slipknot, Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, DJ RAC – the list of music giants joining web3 will only keep growing.
