Quality gameplay and no need to utilize blockchain technology from Day 1
The team behind the gaming metaverse Earthlings utilizes unique characteristics of the Hedera blockchain, combined with user-friendly tokenomics, to bring Web3 gaming to the mainstream. But why would this specific game make a difference in the sea of development teams building gaming projects in Web3? Let’s find out.
A team of doxxed developers from The Netherlands is working on Earthlings.land, an upcoming gaming metaverse that aims to onboard gamers. The team puts lots of effort into crafting a believable world with strong incentives and entertaining gameplay. These are the 5 ways they aim for success.
1 – Made for all gamers
The Earthlings team doesn’t focus on just the Web3 community, but they ambition to onboard many traditional gamers into their gaming metaverse. Ultimately a metaverse is an online open world where people interact and transact, and anybody who’s been playing MMORPGs knows that that has been happening for decades. Gaming needs to come first if you want to fill a metaverse with active participants, or players. In addition, Earthlings.land is building a family-friendly game, while still offering exciting gameplay suitable for a larger audience. Earthlings.land will combine elements of exploration, adventure and battle royale.
Gamers generally don’t like Web3 gaming, but according to the team this has nothing to do with the earning potential of the game. Early play-to-earn games have created lots of negativity, as gameplay was mediocre at best and often extremely repetitive. These early play-to-earn games were simply not fun enough. The negativity towards play-to-earn also had nothing to do with the willingness of gamers to pay for a game, because research shows that the average gamer spends 76 dollars per month on games, skins, loot boxes etc. They simply want a game that’s fun, and that’s something Web3 is hardly delivering yet. Therefore, play-to-earn isn’t the problem, but the quality of the games. The moment that’s tackled, people will enjoy playing and earning.
2 – Incentivize participation by land owners
In Web3 we’ve seen a great variety of projects offering virtual land in their game or metaverse worlds. In most cases, land owners just sit on their land and wait for some price action. In Earthlings.land they want to incentivize participation. Every landowner comes with a ‘gamers plot’, which landowners can assign to a certain player. The landowner and the player will then share a percentage of the player’s earnings, creating an ecosystem where everybody gets rewarded.
3 – Dual token economy
Not everybody wants to interact with blockchain technology, and the Earthlings team knows very well that words like ‘blockchain’ and ‘crypto’ scare a certain group of people. That’s why they decided that players do not need a wallet to play the game. In addition, Earthlings will use two types of currencies:
- WATER – the in-game currency with a fixed price
- STEAM – the crypto token with a TGE price of $0.02. IDO will be live soon.
Players can use WATER to buy and sell all kinds of game items and boosts, including NFT-based game items. The same can be done with STEAM, but this crypto token also has some additional features. The idea is that everybody can play the game, and even earn from the game, and through that progression players may develop an interest in the play-to-earn mechanics of Earthlings.
4 – No NFTs required, but every NFT has purpose
We already mentioned that you don’t need a wallet, but we did talk about land NFTs. It’s important to note that NFTs are not a requirement to play Earthlings. Anybody can play Earthlings.land without the need to own any blockchain-stored digital asset.
However, the NFTs utilized in Earthlings.land all serve a strong purpose in the game’s ecosystem. Where some gaming metaverse allow players to hold barren land where nothing can be done, the land NFTs in Earthlings.land really mean to add something to the game. These land parcels allow players to own towns, banks and train stations, meaning that landowners have a strong impact on the game world.
Players can be a major of a town, or own land plots inside a certain town. Shop owners in a town pay a fee to host their business, while these businesses generate their own revenue. For example, shop owners can sell items, and banks can generate staking rewards based on the population. You can also imagine that train stations earn a fee for every traveler using their public transport services. Many more options are possible even.
5 – Building on Hedera
For most gamers it will not matter on which chain a project is being built, as long as gamers don’t need to pay $10 fees for one transaction. That’s one of the reasons why Earthlings.land is developing their game on Hedera, because transaction costs are just a fraction of a cent. To build a long term business, they picked a secure ecosystem that’s cheap to operate. Hide that technology from gamers who want nothing to do with it, and you have a game experience that’s potentially just as good as any other game on the market.
Closing words
Earthlings.land is looking to become a game changer in Web3 for both mobile and desktop gaming, having the ambition to attract thousands of Web2 gamers. The team wants to deliver a first open world beta test in 2025, but there are still plenty of challenges ahead. Above all, they want to make a game that’s as gorgeous as any AAA project out there, with gameplay that’s undeniably of high quality. When the team delivers on this promise, Earthlings has the potential to onboard millions. But before that happens, the team will first have an IDO for the upcoming STEAM token.
