The racing game Nova Rally on the Wax blockchain is tearing up the charts this week as it attempts to lure a growing play-to-earn audience in the Wax ecosystem. In the last 7 days, the game attracted 2,030 unique active wallets that completed over 85,000 transactions. Currently, Nova Racing is the fastest-growing dapp on the Wax blockchain.
After a successful base launch, the game has ambitions to become the number one blockchain game across all chains. Going head to head with titles such as Axie Infinity and Splinterlands.
Currently, it has around 1500 players a day racing, even though the developers will still add more core features over time. Moreover, Nova Rally wants to address some of the on-ramp sticky points that currently exist within blockchain gaming, such as being able to start playing in just two clicks.
What is Nova Rally?
Nova Rally is a racing simulation where players pick one car and two rally drivers and the results between you and other players are generated almost instantly. If you place on the podium you receive a small bonus, or better yet if you win the whole thing you win shard packs. Which contain pieces of new cars and characters as tradable NFTs once leveled up.
Standard races are composed of 8 competing teams. There is no risk of entering — other than the shame of not winning. You will need Fuel to race, which you simply get hourly for owning any Nova Rally drivers or cars. Simply click claim fuel on the website to receive your tokens. The beginner fuel is called Snake Oil (SNAKOIL). As mentioned, If you win a race you receive a shard pack for a vehicle or a driver. You will need 5 of these to create a new NFT and add it to your team. Another, quite unique game mode is the Death Rally which involves much more risk, but then a higher reward.
In a Death Rally race, players unlock the drivers and cars they are willing to risk being killed and broken and then select a team comprising 2 fearless drivers and 1 banged-up car. The bottom 95% of finishers are killed with only their broken car being returned to them. The winner gets a trophy, an Invite to compete in the World Championship and a Driver’s Manual NFT used to promote characters to the next league to earn better rewards.
Just 2 clicks to play and earn
As mentioned, Nova Rally wants to address some onboarding issues in blockchain gaming. It’s surprisingly difficult to get someone started in any blockchain game.
- First, they need to create a wallet using their email address — Most people get this far.
- Then they need to load the currency from an exchange onto their wallet — Some exchanges don’t easily allow the transfer of WAX, so it’s easy to just give up at this point.
- Pack costs can be really high, unless you strike it lucky, you often pay the premium for an exciting opening feeling.
- Additionally, in some cases, players need to stake CPU, or pay some kind of fee to start playing— most people will not even understand what this means when they are getting errors while trying to play.
One way to combat this is to make starter packs available for the interested players available for purchase in any cryptocurrency. But, it is, however, bad to flood the market with new NFTs as early adopters get frustrated. Therefore Nova Rally will be introducing a buyback scheme.
The scheme will mean NFTs bought from the market can be wrapped back up into new packs from a pre-minted pool of ‘recycled’ NFTs. They will also contain 100,000 SNAKOIL from the assets sitting in the pool earning until opened. This allows the buyer to race 10 times right away, with no waiting time. These packs will be available to buy with any cryptocurrency meaning that users buy one thing, get the satisfaction of opening a pack, and can start playing and earning right away. Users won’t even need to know CPU is a thing.
GameFi Heating up
Overall, Nova Rally has some very interesting mechanics it wants to bring into the ecosystem. To not only engage players but also reward them for their time and loyalty. A lot of blockchain games blow up and last a number of weeks, making unsustainable amounts and many get caught at the top. Nova Rally aims to be a more consistent play-to-earn opportunity, scaling up as more and more players join. Although the initial few clicks won’t make you rich, consistently playing will mean you are building overall value within the Nova Rally universe.
