What is Shrapnel?

Shrapnel is an extraction first-person shooter (FPS) powered by next-generation community-driven tools and built on the blockchain for true ownership.

Developed by a team of BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning talent and using the Unreal Engine 5, Shrapnel presents a not-too-distant future where a mysterious substance has shifted the balance of power, and it’s up to you to claim it.

Players will experience a world in which a massive asteroid has collided with the moon, causing meteorites to bombard a large stretch of Earth, leaving an uninhabitable area known as the Sacrifice Zone. Many speculate about what is being uncovered there, with rumors swirling about a mysterious material called Sigma. Nations and corporations begin assembling their own extraction forces and war rages to control the Sacrifice Zone and its many secrets.

What makes Shrapnel innovative?

For years, gamers have been longing for a true blend of exhilarating gameplay and advanced blockchain technology that finally marries quality and innovation. At first, most Web3 games were all about game tokenomics, often neglecting the essence of what makes gaming exciting and engaging.

However, the tables are turning. Shrapnel is here to conquer that territory, proving that combining cutting-edge FPS gameplay with the benefits of blockchain technology is not just possible, but a game-changer.

With an array of player-creation tools, Shrapnel takes customization to a whole new level. Experience a one-of-a-kind gaming community where players control the platform and decide its future.

Thanks to blockchain integration, players can have real ownership over game items and trade them with each other. Moreover, ownership and claiming the items of your fallen enemies is a core part of the experience. Game items are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) built on Ethereum, Polygon, and Avalanche, making it easier than ever to make a name for yourself in Shrapnel’s dynamic ecosystem.

How do you play it?

Shrapnel is still in active development, but while its final version isn’t live yet, you can join the game’s community and participate in tests. Once the game is live, players enter the lands of Sacrifice Zone and must collect as much gear (NFTs) as they can, and the mysterious compound called Sigma.

If you survive and reach an extraction point, you can escape with your loot and claim it as your own – for real. If you die in the game, though, you lose all you collected.

Shrapnel Gameplay

Everything you earn in the game is a digital asset that is stored in your persistent inventory. If you wish to sell it, trade it, or use it to build your loadout in other gameplay sessions, you’re free to do so. Player-creator tools are also included in this game’s universe, allowing you to enhance your gaming experience with customized playable assets.

Shrapnel NFT holders will have early access to the game, as well as to player-created tools, limited-edition skins, and holder-only opportunities.

Shrapnel NFTs

In Shrapnel, players can truly own in-game assets. This means buying each skin, land, and so on, but also being able to trade, sell or even rent it in the game’s marketplace. Take a look at the game NFT collections available so far.

Shrapnel Operators Collection

Launched in June 2022, Operators was the first Shrapnel NFT collection to be revealed. Besides deepening the community into the game’s universe, it wonderfully united concepts of PFP collections with beautiful art and strong utility.

These Ethereum-based digital collectibles introduced the five characters featured in the story, which players will use in the game, and granted holders early access to the video game, in-game assets, and future token and NFT airdrops based on each collectible’s rarity level.

At the time of writing, the collection’s floor price stood at 0.09 ETH ($189).

Sigma Containment Unit (SCU) Collection

In April 2023, Shrapnel encouraged the community again by launching the Sigma Containment Unit (SCU) NFT collection, this time 10,000 multi-chain NFTs on Polygon, Avalanche, and Ethereum blockchains.

This new collection revealed a new aspect of the game, that of player-creator tools.

SHRAP Tokens

Described as a multi-faceted token, SHRAP is the platform’s governance and utility token that will be issued as an ERC-20 token and later deployed on Avalanche.

It will be used for minting player-created content (PCC), staking and yielding in-game rewards, as a gas token for Avalanche transactions, and as an exchange token on the Shrapnel marketplace. The token launch is set for 2023.

Users holding the Operator NFT will be eligible for the SHRAP token airdrop.
