Season three registration has already begun!
Top ranking virtual world game The Sandbox has announced plans for a third play-to-earn alpha season in 2022 with some exciting NFT avatar features yet to be fully disclosed. Season three registration has already begun.
Unlike Season 2, players won’t need an Alpha Pass to play Season 3, and it’s open to everyone. The Alpha Pass is only needed to claim rewards at the end of a season. More details on this will come soon, make sure to follow the Co-founder and COO of The Sandbox on Twitter for regular updates.
Virtual world platform The Sandbox is widely considered a leader in metaverse and blockchain gaming, with partnerships with brands such as Snoop Dog, Atari, and Adidas.
More recently, they announced a collaboration with TIMEPieces, an NFT community initiative from TIME. The two companies will team up to build ‘TIME Square,’ TIME’s first-ever destination in the metaverse inspired by New York City.
Details and dates about the Alpha Season 3 for The Sandbox are still missing, but 2022 promises to become a big year for the gaming-infused virtual world. To register for season three, simply head to The Sandbox website, connect a blockchain wallet, enter an email, and wait.
NFT Avatars in The Sandbox
Co-founder and COO of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget took to Twitter to drop clues as to what season three may entail and what new features may be added. Including a rallying cry to NFT avatar holders to get ready to bring their avatars into The Sandbox.
The COO also took a poke at Meta in the Twitter thread stating that Meta’s idea of avatars that mirror a person’s real-world self is the opposite of what Metaverse avatars are about.
The Sandbox already teamed up with the World of Women NFT collection to let holders of those NFTs bring their characters into The Sandbox and other leading collections.
While integrating more NFT avatars into The Sandbox is exciting, the platform is also no stranger to buying high-valued NFTs from prominent collections. Last year they purchased a golden Bored Ape NFT for more than $2.9 million.
That particular NFT then became a showpiece in the company’s virtual museum. Later, the purchase of Moonbirds #2642 fits the same narrative, bringing valuable NFT culture into The Sandbox.
The NFT collection owned by The Sandbox contains collectible assets from various projects, including 31 Bored Apes, 21 Mutant Apes, 30 World of Women, 8 CyberKongz, 7 Doodles, and the list continues. DappRadar estimates the value of this wallet to be around $12.8 million at writing, with more than 6 million in NFT assets.

Metaverse & gaming defy market trends
The Sandbox has performed well as crypto markets continue to slide further into depression, with gamers seemingly undeterred by the bear market and utilizing their tokens and in-game assets to have fun.
In the last 30 days, the number of unique active wallets connecting to The Sandbox has increased more than 90%, to around 9,500. At the same time, transactions swelled over 87% to more than 14,500. This shows that players are connecting and interacting with The Sandbox.
The dapp industry is experiencing the effects of a long bear season, severely affecting crypto markets. The market capitalization of cryptocurrencies has fallen below $1 trillion for the first time since 2020. Similarly, activity in the dapp industry fell to its lowest point since last September, registering 2.22 million daily Unique Active Wallets (UAW).
Defying the bear market trend, 1.15 million daily UAW interacted with blockchain games on average in May, decreasing only 5% from the previous month.
Blockchain games confirmed their status as the blockchain vertical better prepared to navigate the bear season. The release of season 3 is sure to boost user numbers even further and help The Sandbox cement its position in the evolving blockchain gaming space.
