A Proof of Stake blockchain optimized for developer and consumer adoption
The Casper Network is a proof of stake blockchain optimized for developer adoption and dapp creation. Casper is the first blockchain built off the Correct-by-Construction (CBC) Casper specification. This allows the network to create sustainable new markets and unlock value by tokenizing nearly any asset, but without compromising performance or security. Activity on Casper is governed by CSPR, the network’s native token.
The Casper Network is developer-friendly, enterprise-ready, and future proof:
Developer friendly
Casper supports developers’ building with WebAssembly. The network’s development ecosystem is designed to be familiar to existing Web2 developers instead of being written in a proprietary language. The Rust to Solidity Transpiler (the “Caspiler”) lets developers easily bring Solidity-based code and dapps over to Casper.
Enterprise ready
The protocol is designed for enterprise adoption with a focus on flexible privacy permissions, low latency, and security. Casper allows enterprises to choose between public, permissioned, and private network iterations depending on their confidentiality preferences without sacrificing security or performance. This has attracted a variety of enterprise and Web3 teams to develop partnerships with Casper.
Future proof
Casper is built to withstand changing business, consumer, and developer preferences. Upgradeable contracts ensure developers and enterprises can improve their applications over time. Predictable gas fees ensure apps remain performant even when network activity spikes. On-chain governance mechanisms ensure governance is based on network contribution and reputation. Weighted key management allows a full access control mechanism over contracts, deployments, and accounts. This means that permissions in a business can carry over onto the blockchain.
Casper is powered by the Highway Protocol, a classic Proof of Stake consensus mechanism with powerful features like flexible finality. Highway solves the scalability trilemma for Casper, enabling the network to support decentralization, scalability, and security. Trail of Bits recently completed a security audit of the Highway Protocol.
Getting Started with Casper
The Casper Developer Portal provides developers with resources to start building applications and smart contracts on the test net. Casper’s mainnet is scheduled to launch in mid-March 2021, and the Casper Association has just announced the registration for its public token sale starting March 23, 2021.
