Sony Pictures and AMC Launch Spider-Man NFTs on Wax

The NFTs will be distributed to AMC Stubs A-List, Premiere, and Investor Connect members

Sony Pictures and AMC Theaters have announced an official collaboration with Wax blockchain to release 86,000 NFT based on the movie ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. The collection will be distributed among AMC Stubs A-List, Premiere, and Investor Connect members who have purchased a pre-sale ticket to the movie premiere.

These promotional Spider-Man NFTs are limited in supply, and for those who have pre-sale tickets for the movie premiere. In order to claim their NFT, fans will have to attend the movie premiere on December 16th. Additionally, fans will have to show their advance ticket purchase or reservation. Of course, there are only 86,000 NFTs available, so this promotional feature will be available while supplies last.

Impressively, this is the first collaboration between a production company and a movie theater to launch a large-scale NFT collection. The new ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is expected to be one of the top-grossing releases for the year. Consequently, demand for the limited-edition NFT collection is huge. Advance tickets are now selling on secondary marketplaces like eBay for exorbitant amounts of money circling the $20.000 mark.

What to expect from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ NFTs?

The ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ NFT collection has quickly become the center of attention among crypto enthusiasts and Spider-Man fans. According to an official Medium post by Wax, the collection will consist of 86,000 NFTs featuring 108 different designs. The unique artworks are grouped in three different categories based on the elements they feature.

More than half of all NFTs, or 65.33%, fall into the Logo category, containing a stylization of the Spider-Man logo. About a third of the whole collection falls in the Abstract category, while only 3% of all NFTs will feature an illustration.

The post also details that each advance ticket entitles the holder to one NFT. However, as the collection becomes publicly available on December 16th fans will be able to purchase ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ NFTs on secondary marketplaces.

Why Wax?

According to an official press release, Sony Pictures and AMC decided to partner up with the Wax protocol for a variety of reasons. The main motivation was to allow Spider-Man fans easy access to their NFTs. Thanks to Wax’s cloud wallet technology, users can get a Wax wallet address in seconds. They can use their social media accounts or e-mail address.

This level of ease of use was paramount for the two companies when making the decision of where to host the NFT collection. Additionally, Wax is one of the more environmentally friendly blockchains out there. The protocol has also been certified carbon neutral.

Last but not least, Wax is among the most popular protocols across numerous use cases, including NFTs and gaming. It is second only to Ethereum in monthly NFT sales volume among layer-1 blockchains.
