Axie Infinity steals a last-minute second place
Avatar NFTs are still dominating the latest top 10 NFT sales ranking. However, this week, we have a surprising new entry at the top of the collection – Genshiro Cats. Two Genshiro Cats NFTs made it to the very top of the chart, with sales worth $308,860 and $247,680, respectively. Overall, seven out of the ten top sales were of NFT avatars from various collections.
Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks are losing positions this week, with only a couple of entries, compared to last week’s 50% dominance in the charts. However, the introduction of highly limited collections like Genshiro Cats somewhat justifies this shift. If you want to learn more about Genshiro Cats, check out this article.
One interesting entry this week is the Genesis Egg sale, which found new owners after a sale worth 69 ETH, or $135,370 at the time of writing. This is one of the few NFTs in this week’s chart that is not an avatar. The Genesis Egg NFT holds a mysterious trove of information about Degen$ that only the owner can access.
Another impressive entry is “Resurrection,” the first NFT released by Persian music legend and beloved Iranian superstar EBI. The piece illustrates Cyrus The Great’s tomb, the founder of the Persian Empire and the first world leader to implement human rights laws, more than 2600 years ago. “Resurrection” is the only classical art piece in this week’s top 10. However, it sold for an impressive 100 ETH or about $196,810 at the time of writing. This secured 4th place for the EBI masterpiece.
Avatars are hot
While we have a little more variation this week in terms of style and types of NFTs topping the chart, the trend DappRadar has observed for a while persists – NFT Avatars are hot right now.
Projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks have created a huge sense of community among owners, which pushes sales. Of course, the limited nature of these collections also serves as a huge booster in terms of volume. Genshiro Cats are also banking on the scarcity of their collection and utilizing a highly visible cause – Genshiro Cats sales aim to support the new Equilibrium Kusama-based DeFi service.
Equilibrium has been hard at work to launch the Kusama-based parachain, which according to the developers, should “do all things that existing DeFi primitives do, but with less risk and with cross-chain interoperability.”

What’s going on with NFT collections?
In terms of NFT collections, Axie Infinity still holds the number one place with a more than 30% increase in volume in the past seven days. NBA Top Shot ranks second. However, its volume dropped by close to 30%. While a new pack for the collection dropped on Friday, there were no significantly large sales, and NBA Top Shot did not make the top 10 NFT sales chart. Numerous smaller sales supported its second place in the top 10 NFT collections ranking.
Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks are still pushing to get to the very top of the charts. BAYC has had a rough week, with drops across all metrics, yet, CryptoPunks saw a 64% increase in unique active wallets and a 31% push in volume.
VeeFriends is still going strong with positive results across the board. Even so, Sorare, the fantasy football NFT collection, is still one position ahead, spurred by the increased interest coming from the Euro 2020 and Copa America tournaments.
One surprising entry in this week’s top 10 NFT collections is The Metakey, a utility NFT collection designed to serve as an all-in-one token in the Metaverse. The Metakey released its third edition collection, which sold out in less than 25 minutes.
