The singer’s punk still sits in a wallet owned by a wealthy NFT investor
Jason DeRulo has entered the NFT scene, but it seems like he doesn’t own the punk he claims to have. The singer announced he bought a CryptoPunk, and revealed that NFT on Twitter. However, the crypto wallet containing punk #1961 has more than $16.6 million worth of NFTs in its collection. Is Jason DeRulo punking us?
The American singer Jason DeRulo announced on Twitter that he acquired a CryptoPunk NFT, while also changing his profile picture into that particular image. Supposedly he acquired CryptoPunk #1961 only 4 days ago for 103 ETH or just over $405,000. Since the purchase, the NFT changed wallets one time according to data from DappRadar.
On Twitter, DeRulo thanked CozomoMedici, an NFT collector and trader who apparently helped the singer. However, this is also the moment confusion kicks in. Because Punk #1961 should be in a wallet owned by the American singer, however, when we take a look the wallet contains more $16.6 million worth of NFTs.
The Medici Collection wallet
The wallet containing Punk #1961 is same wallet that contains Punk #3831, or the one insiders call Cozom. You guessed it, it’s CozomoMedici’s wallet.
We’ve asked CozomoMedici for an explanation, but we still await their reply. Jason DeRulo and CozomoMedici did meet in real life. The NFT investor confirmed this as DeRulo’s partner Jena Frumes posted Instagram Stories from Lake Como in Italy. Supposedly they are longtime friends.
Does Jason DeRulo really own this punk? Are CozomoMedici and the American singer perhaps the same person? On September 9th the NFT collector already teased his collaboration with Jason DeRulo. There he also mentioned that the punk would remain in ‘The Medici Collection’ alongside Cozom and other punks.
So, according to the laws of blockchain Punk #1961 is not owned by Jason DeRulo, but by CozomoMedici.
Not your keys, not your NFT.
