Say hello to the 52 blockchain applications that rocked our world in 2020
It’s been a great year for dapps, especially for DeFi dapps running on the Ethereum blockchain.
That velocity is something we want to celebrate, but not in a dull, boring manner. So we decided to construct our own DappRadar card pack of what we consider the 52 top dapps of 2020.
To explain the process, each of the four card suits is broadly (but not exclusively) related to a single dapp category.
- Clubs is mainly DeFi dapps
- Spades is mainly decentralized exchanges (DEX) dapps
- Diamonds is mainly marketplaces and collectibles, and
- Hearts is mainly games
Win an exclusive DappRadar NFT!
Because we’re all about blockchain, we decided to experiment by making some Ethereum NFT versions of the highest-ranked cards; Aces.
So if you’d like to win one of these super rare NFTs – only 10 of each NFT will be minted – please fill in the following form, listing your email address and your Ethereum wallet.

The Aces
You can check out the complete list of the 52 dapps below.
Clubs
Thanks to the explosion in yield farming that was kicked off by the launch of Compound’s COMP token in June 2020, the amount of value locked into DeFi dapps grew from less than $1 billion in January to around $13 billion by mid-December.
In turn, this growth spilled out through Ethereum dapps, driving up the value of collectibles, activity on marketplaces, as well as triggering another wave of DeFi dapps on other blockchains, notably TRON and Waves.
Obviously, because DeFi is all about finance, the key data point for these dapps is Maximum Daily Volume in US dollars.
NB: Ranking is based on the relative importance of the dapp, not on its data point.
Ace: Compound (ETH) – $1.2 billion
King: Yearn (ETH) – $2.9 billion
Queen: MakerDAO (ETH) – $136 million
Jack: Synthetix (ETH) – $42 million

Spades
In conjunction with the DeFi explosion, there was an enormous increase in activity through decentralized exchanges.
Of course, thanks to the creation of incentivized liquidity pools, many DEXs also extended their features into the DeFi space, increasing merging the two categories.
As with DeFi, the key data point for these dapps is Maximum Daily Volume in US dollars.
NB: Ranking is based on the relative importance of the dapp, not on its data point.
Ace: Uniswap (ETH) – $10.6 billion
King: Balancer (ETH) – $533 million
Queen: Curve (ETH) – $8.3 billion
Jack: Neutrino Protocol (Waves) – $65 million

Diamonds
Partly as a result of the profits generated in the DeFi boom, the value of many collectible NFTs – including crypto art – and activity on such marketplaces also experienced rapid growth, particularly during the late summer and early fall.
Once again, the majority of this activity occurred on the Ethereum blockchain, but it’s worth pointing out that the WAX blockchain also positioned itself within the NFT space with several high profile collections launched during 2020.
The key data point for these dapps is Maximum Daily Volume in US dollars.
NB: Ranking is based on the relative importance of the dapp, not on its data point.
Ace: OpenSea (ETH) – $306,000
King: Async Art (ETH) – $1 million
Queen: CryptoPunks (ETH) – $353,000

4: Avastars (ETH) – $31,000
3: Decentraland (ETH) – $216,000
2: KnownOrigin (ETH) – $109,000
Hearts
Our final card suit – Hearts – mainly covers the blockchain game sector (plus some social dapps). It didn’t experience the same momentum as DeFi during 2020, but the top games certainly did see growth both in terms of their user base and the value of some their most rare NFTs.
For this reason, we switch between Maximum Daily Volume and Daily Active Unique Wallets as our key data point.
NB: Ranking is based on the relative importance of the dapp, not on its data point.
