Land in Dropp will feature artificial reality technology and geo-based NFT minting

Blockchain game studio Animoca Brands has set its sights on Solana-based virtual world Dropp. The company has invested an undisclosed amount into the project, which is expected to launch its first land sale by the end of March.

Dropp is among the most anticipated upcoming virtual worlds. The platform will introduce a new minting mechanic to the NFT space. Relying on innovative geo-location, users will be able to mint NFTs by visiting a specific location.

This innovative approach to NFT minting is what pushed Animoca Brands to invest in the platform. According to a statement from Yat Siu, the executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, this technology has the potential to reshape the metaverse.

Animoca Brands is among the most diversified investors in the crypto space. Importantly, this is the entity behind The Sandbox, arguably the most popular virtual world at the moment. Aside from The Sandbox, Animoca Brands also has investments in Axie Infinity, NFT marketplace OpenSea and Dapper Labs, the company behind the Flow blockchain. Dropp is the latest investment for the game studio.

What to expect from Dropp?

Dropp is still in the early stages of development, however, fans have a lot to look forward to. According to the official roadmap, before the end of March 2022 gamers can expect to see the first open beta version available to iOS users.

What’s more, Dropp expects to activate land NFT sale functionalities by the end of March. Land will play a central role in the way Dropp functions. It will enable artists and creators to initiate NFT drops and mints.

For the moment, there are no details regarding the pricing and structure of the land plots in the Dropp virtual world. However, the team has made sure to point out the importance of land NFTs, especially taking into account the fact that the artificial reality will offer geo-based NFT minting.

Aside from the upcoming land NFT sales, Dropp is planning several cryptocurrency integrations including BNB and ETH. While the platform is based on the Solana blockchain, Dropp will shoot for interoperability in order to offer users a diverse range of payment options.
