Developers invited to bring their A game
The high-speed and low-cost Algorand blockchain organizes a hackathon with a total prize pool of $1.000.000 and with that event they invite developers to make game dapps. Algorand wants to make the Bring Your A Game hackathon an event where developers create the future of gaming.
Algorand is a powerful smart-contract-enabled blockchain ecosystem. Any developer can build dapps on the infrastructure. The Bring Your A Game hackathon introduces game dapp developers to the Algorand ecosystem. Algorand offers everything a game dapp would need:
- Fast transactions
- Scalability
- Smart contracts
- Low costs
Thanks to Algorand’s next generation smart contracts, dapps have become more flexible. The blockchain supports Java, JavaScript (node.js and browser), Go and Python SDKs, REST APIs, as well as many community SDKs, such as rust, swift, PHP, dart, C#, etc. Algorand has developed their own smart contract language, TEAL. This makes sure that no dapp in the ecosystem can be compromised. Read more about TEAL in the developer portal.
Algorand wants to attract the next Splinterlands or Axie Infinity, making them part of their ecosystem. Within the blockchain space we’re seeing more play-to-earn games on multiple blockchain solutions, and Algorand wants to be part of this new gaming revolution. The hackathon starts on November 1st and ends on December 7th, 2021.
Blockchain gaming and the hackathon rewards
In the past quarter 754.000 unique wallets connected with game dapps across the wider blockchain ecosystem. Worldwide there are billions of users active in video games on consoles, home computers and on mobile devices. As blockchain gaming gains traction, Algorand wants to position itself as a viable blockchain solution.
They created four main categories for this hackathon with a prize of $20,000 USD (paid in ALGO tokens) per category: Game development tooling, NFT-based games, metaverse environments and play-to-earn games. In addition game studios and indie game developers can apply for one of the four $250.000 bounties. There will be quality criteria, as the team will evaluate submissions based on their features, game experience, documentation, usability and complexity.
